The Italian National Olympic Committee USA (CONI) is inviting a track & field team from the USA to compete in the CONI Youth Games in Italy June 2-8 for the fourth year in a row.  Totry out, youth must be ages 11-13 and at least 1/4 Italian. 12 track & field athletes from the USwill be selected to travel to Italy (all expenses paid) to compete with kids from all over the worldand learn about the Italian language and culture.  This is athletic and educational endeavor onpart of CONI and offers a once in a lifetime experience for kids. Trials for the Youth Games willbe on May 4th at 2:00pm at St. Ignatius High School in Chicago (venue subject to change).  Athletes will compete in 100m sprint, 800m run, long jump and shot put, and then times will becompared with the Trials from other USA locations before 6 girls and 6 boys are selected for theUSA team.  Youth athletes may submit their marks from previous sanctioned events for consideration.Athletes of all abilities are encouraged to try out.  There is no fee to participate in the Trials.  To register for the Midwest Area Trials, please visit: http://coniusa.wufoo.com/forms/2013-midwest-tryout-registration.Questions and concerns can be directed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. What you will learn can also be applied to those who came home after the war. Handouts filled with resources to help trace your family's genealogy and locate military records will be provided.  After the lecture join us for light refreshments and mix, mingle, and explore the Italian American Veterans Museum.

 

Please note: We are seeking copies of stories, records, photos, and other items documenting Italian American soldiers and their families in all wars. Please consider bringing copies of these items to the meeting to be added to the Casa Italia Genealogy Collection in conjunction with the records for the Veterans Museum. Boxing Classes - Sportivo Chicago is currently accepting applicants for its FREE Boxing 101 Winter/Spring Program for boys and girls between the ages of 7-15 years old. The hour-long clinics are taught on Saturday mornings on the near west side starting February 9th 2013.  Under the instruction of experienced trainers in a professional boxing gym, kids will learn the fundamentals and practice by shadow boxing, hitting trainer mitts, working the speed bag, and preforming a variety of cardiovascular exercise drills.  Space is limited and awarded upon application.
